In order to help you think about your grant application, we have prepared the following notes to help ensure a speedy and hopefully successful application.

Grant Criteria

1) The aim of TAT grants is to support the performing arts in Tring & surrounding area, to provide seed money to get an activity off the ground and to help it achieve sustainability. In particular, we encourage grant applications for projects which reflect our own values of inclusivity and innovation

2) Every grant is assessed on its merits by the Trustees of the charity – our current average grant is in the region of £850.

3) Unless under exceptional circumstances, we will not offer more than 2 grants per year to the same organisation

4) Generally, we will not offer grants for production costs (eg venue hire, scripts, scores, royalties, professional fees, costumes, and sets). Exceptions may apply at the discretion of the Trustees.

5) As a charity ourselves, will not award a grant for another group’s charity fundraiser

Do…

  • Be specific in your request.
We would like to know exactly what you are asking in financial terms and for what purpose.

  • Be realistic in your request.
We have limited funds per year to grant, and many requests. Please think about the value of the grant you are asking for in that context.

  • Think about how the request is furthering your organisation and the performing arts in the local area.
We want to help include more people in performing arts, and give young performers an opportunity, and encourage groups to engage where otherwise they may have been unable to do so. Please highlight if any of these will apply.

  • Engage with us early in your planning.
We have huge experience as a group in staging performing arts. Even if you aren’t quite sure how you might make something happen, we are also here to offer advice and help. You may wish to do this before you ask for a grant as well if it helps you make your idea come to life.

  • Let us know…
How you raise funds in other ways, and why asking for a grant is necessary in addition to your existing ways of generating income.

Don’t…

  • Ask us to “underwrite” your enterprise.
We are offering grants against specific endeavours, and we will ask you about your finances and other means of earning revenue.

  • Ask us for money retrospectively.
We are seeking to help future performances and ventures.

  • Assume in your financial plans that you will get your grant request approved.
We are here to help as much as we can, but we cannot guarantee every request will be successful.

  • Leave it too late.
We meet quarterly – the earlier you ask the better your chance of getting a positive outcome in good time.
