Tring Arts Trust is a registered charity dedicated to providing assistance to amateur performing arts organisations to meet the needs of the local creative community. Tring Arts Trust has a long and evolving history of supporting the arts in Tring, adapting over the years. Below is a detailed account of our journey, from our founding in 1995, to our renewed purpose today.

The history… the longer version

Tring Arts Trust was in fact the original name of the charity set up in 1995 (charity number 1949204) to support the arts in Tring with the following charitable objects:

To promote the arts in society for the benefit of the inhabitants of Tring and surrounding areas by developing public appreciation of and education in the arts by improving both public access to, and the quality of the arts.

This then evolved into Court Theatre Ltd (charity number 1147983) when we took over the day-to-day running of the theatre in 2009 with the following charitable objects:

To support the operation of the Court Theatre, Tring, a community theatre, for the purpose of advancing education, to the benefit of the general public, in the performing arts, theatrical productions and artistic excellence.

The tenancy agreement we had with the landlord came to an end in 2024 and as we now no longer run the theatre, we have reverted to our original name, Tring Arts Trust.

So, the way forward…

Over many years of hard work by hundreds of volunteers and careful management, we built up contingency funds with the intention of continuing to invest and improve the infrastructure at the theatre for the future, as we have done over many years.

However, now the theatre is under new management, we have a fantastic opportunity to use our accumulated funds to redefine the purpose of our charity and help a wide variety of local arts organisations with financial and promotional support and advice from a team of experts that has been building since 1978. Some of our trustees have been involved since that time.

If you would like to apply for some support, please use this website to send over the relevant information we need to evaluate your request.

How will we maintain our funding…

We are taking professional charity advice to invest our funds into income-generating investment vehicles and will publish the performance of these funds annually at our AGM.

We also continue to produce the Tring pantomime and the murder mystery shows held currently at the theatre, with all the profits becoming distributable funds for the charity.

We are happy to receive sponsorship from any local businesses and receive charitable donations from individuals. If this is you, then please do get in touch.

Every year, we will distribute funds with a view to being self-sustaining financially, thus meaning that Tring Arts Trust will continue to offer help to future generations.
